Santiago is a big city with a population of around 6million but luckily most of the sights to see are in the commercial centre, which is also where our hotel is.
Spent Friday just wandering around town looking at some buildings as we were very tired from the early rise and long flight. We did find a great little coffee shop which actually served latte just like at home and have managed to navigate an ATM.
Saturday we were refreshed and able to do a lot more sightseeing including a visit to the Central Market which has an incredible variety of fish and seafood, and a visit to the Santiago Metropolitan Park and Zoo including a ride to the top in the funicular.
Have tried the local drink – Pisco Sour which is a bit like
a Margherita, have eaten Cerviche which is raw fish and scallops marinated in
lime juice and coriander, and John even had Congo Eel soup, all can be highly
recommended.
Hot Dogs seem to be the favoured junk food here with a hot
dog shop on every corner, we tried one and they are delicious – very different
to the ones at home.
